It Takes a Team: The People Behind Our Program
Coaches, volunteers, families, partners, and supporters create room for West Valley students to grow.
A young athlete may see the ball, the coach, and the court. Behind that experience is a community giving time, knowledge, transportation, gym space, encouragement, and financial support.
Coaches who teach more than technique
Cornerstone coaches plan practices, demonstrate skills, manage safety, and help athletes understand the game. They also model communication, patience, accountability, and respect.
A coach may spend one moment correcting footwork and the next helping a player reset after frustration. Both are part of developing the whole student.
Volunteers make the details possible
Programs run on hundreds of small tasks—checking in families, organizing equipment, coordinating schedules, supporting events, and welcoming new participants.
Volunteers turn those needs into reliable experiences. Their consistency tells students that the community sees them and is willing to invest.
When a community builds the court around a young person, that student has more room to imagine what is possible.
Families are essential partners
Parents and caregivers handle transportation, schedules, communication, encouragement, and countless behind-the-scenes decisions. They reinforce habits at home and help coaches understand what each child needs.
Clear expectations, respectful communication, and a shared focus on development keep the athlete at the center.
Partners open doors
Schools, gyms, local businesses, faith communities, and nonprofit partners can provide space, expertise, equipment, visibility, and funding across Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, and El Mirage.
Gym time and organized activities carry real costs. Community support helps keep core membership free and reduces barriers.
Supporters invest in possibility
Donors and sponsors may never run a drill, but they make the drill possible. Their generosity can support facilities, uniforms, equipment, training, transportation, camps, leagues, and scholarships.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Cornerstone depends on people who see youth development as a community responsibility.
There is a place for everyone
A strong program needs many kinds of help. Some people coach; others organize, mentor, introduce a partner, sponsor an opportunity, or share the mission.
The common thread is a belief that students grow when caring adults build consistent, challenging, supportive spaces around them.
